A two stroke engine is an internal combustion engine where the
thermodynamic cycle in completed in two movements of the piston. This
increased efficiency is accomplished by using the beginning of the
compression stroke and the end of the combustion stroke to
simultaneously perform the intake and exhaust functions. In this way
two stroke engines often provide strikingly high specific power. Petrol
(spark ignition) versions are particularly useful in lightweight
(portable) applications such as chainsaws.

Most moden day wehicles now commonly use a four-stroke cycle combustion engine.
The four strokes refer to intake, compression, combustion and
exhaust strokes that occur during two crankshaft rotations per working
cycle of the engine. |

Gear oils are made specifically for differentials, transmissions and transfer cases in vehicles and other machinery. The higher viscosities better protect the gears ensuring transfer of lubricant throughout the gear train. Some modern automatic transaxles (integrated transmission and differential) do not use a heavy oil but lubricate with the lower viscosity hydraulic fluid, which is available at pressure within the automatic transmission.
Most lubricants for manual gearboxes and differentials are hypoid gear oils. These contain... |

The fork tubes link a motorcycle's wheel to its frame housing the suspension. Inside most tubes are springs, fork oil, and pressurized air, creating a shock absorber. Fork oil within the tube allows damping through variably sized orifices controlling the flow of fork oil. The larger the orifice, the more free the flow and the less damped the fork. A selector atop the fork engages the desired hole size and corresponding damping rate. |

Chain oils protect the metal elements of the chain in high temperatures/ load situations to prevents breakdowns. |

Mineral-based (DOT 3,4,5.1)
Silicone-based (DOT 5)
Fluids such as DOT 3 are hygroscopic and will absorb water from the atmosphere. This degrades the fluid's performance, and if allowed to accumulate over a period of time, can drastically reduce its boiling point. This can be of serious concern in racecars or motorcycles. Opie oils can help you choose the correct brake fluid for your vehicle |
