Car Engine Oil

Buy Select Car Engine Oil by grade, quality or by manufacturer / handbook specification for delivery to your home, workplace or mechanic.

Car Engine Oil is a vital part of your motor... pay attention to your oil change schedules, check and top up your levels between services, choose quality car engine oil of the right specification and you'll maximise the efficiency of your motor and extend your vehicle's life.

The most obvious function of car engine oil is to lubricate, but car oil also protects against corrosion of engine components and cleans deposits and contaminants that can arise as by-products of combustion. Engine car oil is also responsible for a large percentage of the cooling that takes place in your engine.

A few common questions answered:

Can I use car engine oil in my van?

The oils we stock can generally be used in cars, vans, and LGVs. If your van or light goods vehicle handbook recommends using a particular grade or specification, the products you can choose from will be roughly the same as if you had a car.

What is a Car Engine Oil?

The primary function of an engine oil is to lubricate the internal components of your car's motor. However it also does a whole host of other tasks such as engine cooling; by more evenly distributing heat around; cleaning, using built in oil additive detergents; improved sealing, utilising the correct viscosity of the oil, and corrosion inhibition, by using the oil's built in oil additive package.

What engine oil to use

You will generally find the recommended car engine oil grade / viscosity & specification within your vehicles handbook, or you can use our Oil & Parts Finder - just enter your vehicle registration mark to see our recommendations.

Why do engine oil grades and specifications matter?

Each vehicles motor is produced and designed around a certain engine oil grade / viscosity plus a very specific specification. Spec's are very varied to cope with the vastly different strains and stresses vehicle motors have to cope with (cc size, DPF, diesel & petrol to name just a few). Therefore to maintain your engine efficiency, life span and performance you should always stick with oil your engine was designed around (unless it is heavily performance modified).
