Timing is a key factor when it comes to keeping an internal combustion engine running properly. In the highly complex engine processes, the purpose of crankshaft sensors is to provide the engine’s ECU with the most essential information needed to run the engine. Consequently, exact timing of fuel injection and ignition is essential for smooth and efficient engine operation.

The crankshaft sensor delivers the main input signal for the ECU. Unlike many other sensors, where, in case of a failure, the ECU can calculate a default value and keep the engine running, this is not the case for the signal of the engine speed sensor. Without this signal, the ECU cannot keep the engine running, resulting in a car breakdown
