Most “gold” thermal-barrier products on the market use “birthday balloon technology” aka Mylar to deflect heat, and whilst Mylar can look fantastic and reflect heat away - so does aluminium foil, but at a fraction of the cost. This tape, made from HeatShield’s proprietary TruGold thermal-barrier material, compromises of a true gold colour reflective layer combined with a lightweight high-grade fibreglass cloth.
Cold-Gold Tape won’t degrade after long-term heat exposure and can take constant ambient temps of up to 594°C, along with intermittent ambient temps of 1093°C. Although it is not designed for direct heat contact, it can shield over 90% of radiant heat with a 1" space from the heat source. The full fibreglass cloth backing (not scrim) is especially designed to protect components in the event of a fire, acting as an effective fire barrier even after the gold coating burns off. It is the difference that can prevent the beginning of a fire event from turning into a full-flame catastrophe.
