When driving your vehicle abroad, the national identifier which is required to be displayed on vehicles registered to the United Kingdom has now changed from GB to UK, with effect from the end of September 2021. This means that GB stickers including those featuring a combination of the letters GB and the Council of Europe golden stars are now no longer valid for driving abroad. If you have a GB sticker, cover or remove it before driving outside the UK.
The official guidelines as per the gov website are that if your number plate includes the UK identifier with the Union flag (also known as the Union Jack), you do not need a separate UK sticker. However, you will need to display a separate UK sticker clearly on the rear of your vehicle if your number plate has any of the following:
If you are in Spain, Cyprus or Malta, you must display a separate UK sticker no matter what is on your number plate. You do not need a UK sticker or number plate to drive in Ireland.
This pair of UK Number Plate Stickers (Ref. CP-8) from Summit are suitable for use as the above mentioned UK identifiers for your number plate. The pack of two includes a white identifier for the front number plate, and a yellow identifier for the rear number plate.
