Brake drums are a crucial component of your vehicle's braking system. A brake drum is a cylindrical drum attached to the top of the inside of a car's wheel, rotating at the same speed as the wheel. Pressing the brake pedal causes the brake shoes to push outward against the brake drum, which generates friction and slows the vehicle down.

While brake drums are made of durable iron, like brake discs they are subjected to excess heat generation that can impact braking performance and security.

Brake drums can also be prone to water intake. Water that enters the drum can get stuck between the brake shoe and the inside of the brake drum, which will impact the time it takes for your vehicle to stop when braking. For this reason, replacing worn or old brake drums is crucial for driver safety.
