Description:
Bilt Hamber Auto-Wheel

Bilt Hamber Auto-Wheel is a non-acid, non-alkaline wheel cleaner: quick , safe for alloys and in over 90% of cases you don't even need to touch the wheel - just apply, leave and hose off.

In most cases steel and alloy wheels are either lacquered or painted these coatings protect the metallic surface from corrosion and provide attractive finishes to automotive road wheels. As vehicles brake the dust generated from pads discs and drums is at elevated temperatures, amongst this hot cloud are thousands of particles of hot metallic particles, these bombard the wheel finishes and effectively embed themselves in the finish.

Once lodged they are extremely difficult to remove, acid based wheel cleaners attack these metal particles and effectively attack the particle reducing its size allowing the particle and dirt clinging to it to escape, caustic wheel cleaners are less effective than acid ones on brake dust but can attack organic coatings such as lacquers and paints on short exposure they attack any organic matter accumulated around the embedded particle and produce a seemingly clean surface, however with continued use they will dull and diminish the coating leaving a wheel surface that needs refinishing.

Safer AND more effective - auto-wheel works in an entirely different way, and has proven itself by winning independent tests conducted by the UK’s biggest selling automotive magazine even against powerful acid and alkaline cleaners.

Available with a Bilt Hamber supplied wheel brush and also as a cheaper option without (if you don't want one or already have one).

Bilt Hamber Auto-Wheel’s pH neutral formulations reacts with the oxidising surface of the metallic particle rendering it water soluble, the rapid removal of this microscopically rusted surface reduces the embedded particle size and releases it from the surface, unlike acids this method is harmless to the wheel’s finish and in fact so fast it cleans more effectively – the reaction is seen by a rapid colour change from clear to deep red, after which a simply hose or rinse leaves the wheel spotless. In severe cases a brush can be used to assist the process.

How To Use

  • Spray Auto-Wheel liberally onto your wheels (avoid directly spraying the centre caps of the wheels by spraying radially outward from the centre)
  • Wait for the colour changing reaction (normally 1-5 minutes)
  • Wash the wheel thoroughly with a hose or jet-wash
Frequently Asked Questions

1. How much Auto-Wash do I need?
The suggested dilution ratio is 1:2000. The standard instructions are to put 5ml of Auto-Wash in a bucket, and fill with up to 10 litres of warm, fast flowing water to generate a lather.
2. Can I use Auto-Wash on a soft top?
Yes. Auto-Wash can be used at the same dilution rate as paintwork on a soft top
3. How often should I use Auto-Wheel?
Use Auto-Wheel when contamination such as brake dust is observed, which is usually every four months. Before the contamination builds, the wheels can be washed with a regular car shampoo. It isn't necessary to use Auto-Wheel every time the car is washed.
4. Do I use Auto-Wheel on wet wheels or dry?
Use on dry wheels, then rinse off with water.
5. Is Auto-Wheel suitable for diamond-cut alloy wheels?
Yes.
6. The instructions on the tech sheet say to avoid plastic wheel centre caps, why is this?
Auto-Wheel will not have any effect on this part of the wheel - so spraying here is simply wasteful - but will not damage centre caps. Just rinse well to remove cleaner after use if any Auto-Wheel does overspray onto the cap.
7. Which wax is best for use on alloy wheels after cleaning with Auto Wheel?
Double Speed-Wax.
8. Can I use Auto-Wash in a pressure washer?
You can, however, it isn't developed for this purpose and so Bilt Hamber do not advise how effective it will be when used in this way. Auto-Wash is designed to be used in a bucket. Auto-Foam, Touch-Less and Surfex HD are all designed for pressure washer use and will be more effective for touchless cleaning
9. Is it safe to use Auto-Wheel on alloy wheels that have been lightly kerbed?
Yes. As Auto Wheel only tackles contamination, this will cause no further damage to the wheels.
10. Will Auto-Wheel remove alloy wheel sealant or wax products?
While Auto-Wheel hasn't been tested with alloy wheel waxes or sealants from other manufacturers, the fallout removal effect of Auto-Wheel is only necessary when contamination builds up and the wheels cannot be fully cleaned with regular car shampoo. As this is commonly between 3-4 months, so it is likely you will need to reapply the wax or sealant by this time anyway, due to erosion through use. If you wished to test what happens when you use Auto-Wheel on the surface, you could apply the wax or sealant to an area on the back of the wheel.
11. Will Auto-Wheel hurt areas such as brake pads if sprayed while I’m cleaning my wheels?
While it is best to avoid these areas if possible, Auto-Wheel shouldn’t do any damage. Rinse the area if this does occur. Alternatively, apply the product with the brush provided instead, to avoid overspray and localise the application.
12. What is the difference between Auto-Wheel and Korrosol?
Auto-Wheel is designed to cling on and work on a dirtier, vertical surface while Korrosol is designed for paintwork and will spread more easily across the surface. While these products are both intended to target the same brake dust and other metallic fallout, they are specifically formulated for their own particular job. The products will be easier to use and it will be more economical for you if these products are used correctly. However, using these products interchangeably won’t cause damage.
