API CH-4 was introduced by American Petroleum Institute to meet 1998 exhaust emission standards and specifically formulated for use with diesel fuels ranging in sulphur content up to 0.5% weight. API CH-4 is backward compatible so can also be used where API CF-4, and API CG-4 is recommended.
